About The Pub
Standing close to the old London - Lichfield - Chester - Liverpool Post Road and the former basin of the Newcastle Canal, completed in about 1800 to link Newcastle-Under -Lyme with the Trent and Mersey Canal. The pub derives it's name from the horse drawn barges that used the canal.
